Major Pierre Antoine, who arrived here last Friday, August 20, made the call on Sunday, August 22, at his civic welcome which took place at the Kingstown Salvation Army Church on Halifax street.

Antoine, a Haitian, is accompanied by his Jamaican wife Major Persha Antoine and their five-year-old daughter Peta-Gaye.

The Antoines replace Major Henry King and his wife Pauline who will now move on to Belize.

During his first message in his new appointment, Antoine called for unity in his organization, as well in the local churches, so that the country will continue to receive God’s blessings.

Antoine noted that bitterness is destroying lives and churches, and called for Christians to let go of their bitterness and lean on Jesus Christ.

In Sunday’s civic welcome of the Major and his family, welcome remarks were given by Anglican Bishop Leopold Friday on behalf of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Christian Council, Chairperson of Salvation Army Advisory Board Norma Knights, and Sisters Boucher and Bonadie who represented the organization’s senior and youth arms.
