Fresh faces in ULP election mix
The Unity Labour Party (ULP) has the right combination to ensure its third straight term in office, says the partyâs political leader, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.{{more}}
He said that the ULP contained a mixture of âfresh faces and old warriors.â
He was referring to the likes of new comers Saboto Caesar, Michelle Fife and Luke Browne.
âThere is no political party anywhere in the Caribbean which can field for you three candidates of youthful quality, seriousness, brilliance and patriotism,â said Gonsalves, as he compared the ULP to other political parties.
At last Sundayâs political rally Gonsalves introduced some of the other new comers to the ULPâs list of candidates such as Cecil McKie, Frederick Stevenson, Maxwell Charles and Nichola Evans.
Meanwhile, Gonsalves asked his supporters to ensure that they turn out in their numbers to vote in the next general elections so that the ULP has a good chance of being returned to office.
âYou have to defend your leaders and defend your country,â Gonsalves said.
âWe want the working people to defend this government.â
Contrary to the oppositionâs view, Gonsalves said that his party had an impeccable record.
âI want to go through category by category starting with the poor and working class people.â
He noted that the current administration had successfully created over 10,000 new jobs and despite the oppositionâs view that the economy was in shambles, the ULP led government had increased this countryâs Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to make it the third best in the region. (DD)
