Vincies to heat up Labour Day

Vincentians in New York are being promised a “bigger, better, brighter” Labour Day weekend, with event promoters organizing several events to “bring … Vincies together” and “showcase our talent and culture”.{{more}}

Three major Vincentian-themed events will be held over the Labour Day Weekend, September 4 – 5.

Donna Weekes and her Ethel Fashion Committee will stage a “Caribbean Fashion Extravaganza” on September 4 from 6 p.m. at Aviator Indoor Ballroom on Flatbush Avenue.

The event will feature New York based Vincentian fashion designers, including host Donna Weekes of “Ethel” designs, which produced evening gowns for two of this year’s Ms SVG Pageant.

The show will showcase the work of other Caribbean designers in New York as well as designers from Trinidad, Antigua, Barbados, St. Vincent, St. Lucia and Guyana.

A Vincy Soca Extravaganza is slated for later that evening, also at Aviator Indoor Ballroom, and will feature some of the leading soca artistes out of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

These artistes include three-time and reigning National Soca Monarch, Skinny Fabulous, 2010 Road March champion Maddzart and two-time Road March winner Problem Child.

The ABC of Calypso, Alston Becket Cyrus and “the Rolls Royce of Calypso” Winston Soca are also among the acts slated to perform at the event.

The events will conclude with an all-white cruise, dubbed “Blanc sur Blanc” aboard the New York Princess from 11 p.m. on September 5.

The vessel is scheduled to sail from Emmons Avenue, Pier 8, with Caribbean and Japanese Cuisine onboard.

Several DJs, including Outta Orda Sounds and 2Kool Chris, are slated to provide music during the cruise.
