Dinky still in running for NDP

Reports that Cameron Dinky Balcombe will not be a candidate for the New Democratic Party (NDP) in the upcoming elections are false.{{more}}

“Nobody has taken any decision like that,” NDP president and Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace told SEARCHLIGHT on Wednesday.

“Balcombe is the candidate for the Party,” Eustace said, when asked if the NDP was reconsidering Balcombe as a candidate.

With this, Eustace reconfirmed that Balcombe will for the second time try to depose Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, who has been the Member of Parliament for North Central Windward since 1994.

One caller to a radio talk show this week said that some NDP supporters in North Central Windward did not want Balcombe as their candidate, while another said that a meeting had been convened to discuss the issue.

Balcombe, a businessman, was unsuccessful in his attempt to win the North Central Windward seat in 2005. He got 676 votes, while Gonsalves got 2,887. (KXC)
