With the madness of Carnival done and dusted for another year, three locals are rejoicing at having won tidy sums in the National Lotteries Authority’s (NLA) Carnival Mega Money madness competition.{{more}}

Sherman Soleyn, of Redemption Sharpes, was the lucky winner of the top prize of EC$10,000; while Shaneka James and Kimer Williams secured second and third places – winning EC$7,500 and EC$5,000, respectively.

On Tuesday, July 13, 2010, NLA Product Development Officer Anthony Dennie handed over cheques to the winners, congratulating them on their good fortune and encouraging them to continue to play NLA games.

Soleyn, an electrician, said that he has no specific plans for the money as yet but he will be using “a little bit for everything”. He said that the money came at an opportune time because his children require books for the new school term and he is in the process of building a house.

Soleyn also revealed that he was not surprised when he was informed of his win because he had dreamt that he won a large sum of money through the NLA.

Second prize winner, Shaneka James, is also in the midst of house construction and welcomed the money. She said that she was at the Soca Monarch show, where the winners’ names were drawn, but couldn’t make it up to the stage in time.

“I felt so happy,” James, a New Chapmans resident, said.

Third prize winner Kimer Williams was also at the show when friends told her that her name had been picked. However, she was in disbelief because she had not entered the competition herself.

“I asked them if they were sure it’s me, and they said it’s only one Kimer Williams in Sion Hill,” she pointed out.

Williams later found out that, unbeknown to her, her mother had entered her into the competition. The store clerk said that she was extremely grateful to her mother because her daughter recently sat CSEC examinations, and the money will come in handy to assist her further education.

“To her [her mother], I love you!” Williams beamed.

Eddie Cunningham, of Largo Heights, won a consolation prize of a Compaq laptop worth EC$2,700; while Peter Durrant and Venol Samuel, of Arnos Vale and Spring Village, respectively, each won a digital camera and colour printer bundle worth EC$1,500.

Persons were entered into the prize draw when they purchased $6.00 or over worth of Lotto or Super 6 tickets.(JV)
