‘Cash for Gold’ Venezuelan shot dead in robbery

Seven months after citizens here expressed concern about a group of Venezuelans buying gold on the streets of Kingstown, a member of the group was shot and killed in a daring robbery on Tuesday, June 22, 2010.{{more}}

According to a police report, Juan Carlos, a 37-year-old Venezuelan businessman, was murdered at his Ratho Mill apartment.

The police said they received information that Carlos sustained gunshot wounds to his right side and chest when two masked men entered the apartment and demanded money before opening fire.

Douglas Effencuanuno Chinios, a 34-year-old businessman, also of Venezuela, who was also at the apartment at the time of the robbery, sustained gunshot injuries to fingers on both of his hands.

He was taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

The police are investigating the matter.
