Courts OECS Managing Director retires

After more than 25 years as a Courts Managing Director in St. Lucia, Trinidad, St. Vincent and the OECS, and having attained the legal age of retirement in St. Lucia in March, Malcolm Burns, Managing Director of Courts OECS, will retire from employment with Courts with effect from August 31, 2010.{{more}}

Malcolm first came to St. Lucia in April 1984, as deputy to then Managing Director, David Isaacs. Isaacs was subsequently appointed to open a new Courts operation in Mauritius in January 1985, at which time Malcolm was appointed as his successor in St. Lucia.

Malcolm Burns served as Managing Director of Courts (St. Lucia) for ten years and in September, 1994 moved to Trinidad to run Courts’ growing operations there.

In 2002, he returned to St. Lucia and resumed the position of Managing Director and in 2004 he was appointed Managing Director of Courts (St. Vincent) in addition to St. Lucia.

In March 2005 he was also appointed to the new position of OECS Regional Director – effectively CEO of all Courts OECS business units – with the task of managing the six Courts companies in the OECS as a single trading unit.

In 2005/06 he was part of a team of four senior executives who represented the 12 Courts Caribbean businesses in presentations to potential purchasers, following the demise of Courts UK, and he retained his position on the Courts Caribbean senior management team following its acquisition by Regal Forest Holding in December 2006.

A successor for Courts OECS will be announced shortly, and in the meantime, Burns will continue to provide leadership for the business and will also assist with the transition process.

It is with deep appreciation that professionally Courts says farewell to Malcolm, who has served the business for over 26 years at the top level of management and during his tenure has shown unwavering commitment to the business and to his team. We thank him for his dedication and contribution to the business over the past 26 years, and wish him and his family well in the future.
