The 2010 Carnival new song winner in the soca category was on Tuesday announced as the face of furniture and appliance store Courts for its 2010 Carnival Promotional Campaign.

At a press conference held at the company’s head office in Kingstown on Tuesday, Marketing Executive Alexis John said his company was pleased to be associated with the ‘Skarpyon Brand’.

“This vibrant brand has been doing pretty well over the last 20 years. He is considered the ladies’ man, and most of our customers are female, so we see it very fitting to sign Skarpyon for this promotional campaign.”

John indicated that the campaign, dubbed ‘Courts Ragga Ragga Carnival Sale’, will kick off this Friday, June 11, and run until July 4, 2010.

According to John, customers spending $499 or more will get the chance to win costumes compliments SVG Players International.

A one dollar deposit is all that is needed for persons shopping on credit during this promotional campaign, John added.

He also indicated that during the campaign, some items in the store will be available at half price.

For the past four years, Courts has been making local artistes the flag bearers of its Carnival promotions.

In 2007 and 2008, soca artiste Zolah was the face of the campaign. She was followed by Icon in 2009.

This year, the company opted for Skarpyon, who has already copped one title for the season, with the ragga soca and soca monarch titles still in his sights.

The ‘Skarpyon Brand’ began in 1990 when the young crooner won the junior calypso title in the primary schools’ category.

For the next five years, 1991 to 1996, he kept a grip on the secondary schools’ title.

Over the years, Skarpyon had chalked up a number of titles, including soca monarch (2004), ragga soca monarch (2004), Road March king (2006), as well as a number of runner up positions.

At Tuesday’s unveiling, Skarpyon indicated that he was excited and pleased to be selected as this year’s promotional mouthpiece.

He said that the selection is a motivational boost and promised to do his best to represent the company.

“This is a wicked combination: the Skarpyon Brand and the Courts Brand. We are definitely going to bring value to Vincentians when it comes to giving you what you want.” Skarpyon added.
