Baptiste/Mc Carthy discuss performing arts in SVG

Minister of Culture René Baptiste has held discussions with Mr. Michael Mc Carthy, of Harlequin Academy for the Performing Arts, last Thursday on the expectations for the proposed Institution, and entertainment at the Buccament Bay Resort.{{more}}

The meeting discussed the engagement of Vincentian performers, artistes and cultural practitioners in the Academy and at the Resort. Areas covered in the deliberations included the introduction of master classes in several areas of the performing arts; as well as the delivery of special events and packaged perofrmances based on the Resort area venues and the demographics of the proposed guests and users of the Resort, and the National Cultural Calendar of Events in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Present at these preliminary discussions were Anthony Theobalds – Head of the Department of Culture; Michael Peters – Cultural Research Officer; Ann Marie Venner of the National Cultural Foundation and Dennis Ambrose and Ashford Wood – Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Carnival Development Corporation, respectively.

The Harlequin Performing Arts Academy will present “Bringing the Best of Broadway to the Caribbean” with performances including popular opera, contemporary musical theatre, Latin dance and Cabaret.

The tailor-made classes will be led by West End performers, actors, choreographers, vocal coaches and musicians. The Dance Studio will provide a spectrum of dance.

It is anticipated that further meetings will be held with the leadership of the proposed Academy and Events Department of the Resort.
