AGAPE takes lion share of awards at Gospel Fest

The Agape Performing Arts Theatre is the most outstanding organisation which participated in the 2010 Gospel Fest Awards.{{more}}

The group, from the Kingstown Methodist Church, was awarded by the SVG Gospel Fest Committee during the SVG Gospel Fest Awards held on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Peace Memorial Hall.

The evening saw performances from several persons in dance, song and skit. Churches and Organisations were also awarded for their excellence during the Gospel Festival.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Culture René Baptiste, Cultural Officer in the Ministry, Anthony Theobalds, congratulated the participants on their performances during the Gospel Fest. He added that the Ministry of Culture will continue to support the event.

He further commended parents who supported their children, adding that children are often handed over to the school or the church to perform the role of the parent.

Performances of the night included soulful dances from the Sion Hill Methodist Mission and Youth With a Purpose and singing by Shunell Nedd who was also awarded the most outstanding in the over-19 solo category.

Chrislon Frazier, of Kingdom Life Ministries, also delivered a stirring sermonette titled “Declare God’s Praises.”

Awards were given out in 20 categories, including solos, duets, dance, drama, poetry, Awards of excellence, SVG Gospel Fest Committee awards, and the Patrice Bascombe Awards.

The Agape Performers dominated the Drama category, winning in the choral speech, skit, mime, and also original composition. The Sion Hill Methodist Mission also were also awarded in the sermonette category and for their outstanding achievement.

Other churches and organisations awarded included the Hope For Life Restoration Ministries, Kingstown International Church of Christ and Driven Ministries, among others.

The sponsors, churches and judges were also given gifts of appreciation by the SVG Gospel Fest Committee. The theme for this year’s Gospel Fest was “Declare God’s Praises in the Islands.” (OS)
