Gonsalves: Eustace will ‘bun’ by election time

Prime Minister and Political leader of the Unity Labour Party, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, is maintaining his tight lipped position on when the next general elections will be called.{{more}}

Speaking at the first in a series of public meetings at Lauders last weekend, Gonsalves reiterated his earlier position that despite the speculation of an election date, he was not prepared at this time to make such an announcement.

“There are a lot of people in the Opposition who are wondering what the Comrade is going to do tonight – is he going to ring the bell?” Dr Gonsalves said.

“Every single month since the year start, they predicting elections,” he mused.

“They say is April, after Selmon and them qualify for their pension; then they say May because I want to hold it before Carnival, then they say August because that is my birthday – they guessing.”

“They would have had an idea if they voted for the referendum, but they didn’t do that,” he said.

Those wanting to know will, therefore, have to wait a bit longer until the Governor General is advised by the Prime Minister when the elections will be called.

“Before then, they have a lot of work to do,” he said.

He referred to a speech delivered back in 2005 saying that “the race to the polls is a marathon, not a sprint and by the time elections come, Eustace would ‘bun’,” the political leader said. (DD)
