Family hoping, praying for Afeisha’s recovery
Despite the severity of the injuries to Afeisha Tobyâs head during a brutal cutlass attack, her brain was not damaged.{{more}}
This was disclosed by her cousin Godwin Glasgow, who travelled with Afeisha when she was airlifted to Trinidad and Tobago for medical help last Sunday.
Glasgow, in an interview with SEARCHLIGHT, last Wednesday evening, said he was told by the doctors that Afeishaâs mental capacity will not be diminished, but it will take a miracle to restore the full use of her limbs.
Describing the chop wounds that his cousin received, Glasgow said her cuts ran from front to back of her head, and from the front to the back of her neck. She also received chops to her back, as well as to one of her shoulder bones. Chops were inflicted on both her hands, as well as to her right side.
âWe are keeping the faith. We are also hoping and praying that everything will work out,â said Glasgow.
Glasgow disclosed that the chop to Afeishaâs head punctured the lining of her brain. However, the surgery in Trinidad to repair the damage was successful.
âBasically she is recovering, but the surgery for the chop wounds on her hand will be done up here (in St. Vincent),â said Glasgow.
He said once Afeisha is stabilized from the surgery to her head, the wounds on her hands will be addressed.
Glasgow told SEARCHLIGHT God must have granted him some extra strength to deal with the situation.
He noted that he cannot understand the reasoning behind the attack on his cousin, because the suspect is someone that Afeisha knew.
Meanwhile, residents of Victoria Village are calling on St. Vincent Electricity Services LTD (VINLEC) to place street lamps on the street where Afeisha lives.
They told SEARCHLIGHT the darkness on the entire street may have contributed to creating a comfort zone for her assailant. (HN)
