The Park Hill Government School held its third investiture ceremony last Friday at the school grounds.

Undeterred by the heavy downpour, parents witnessed twenty-one beaming sons officially welcomed into the scout movement.{{more}} They proudly looked on as the cubs were presented with their national crest, group scarf and membership badge.

In her brief remarks, Scout Leader and National Field Commissioner Hassan Wichkam cautioned these parents not to see the Cub Scout movement as a rehabilitation centre or boot camp where delinquent boys are re- modelled. Instead, she encouraged them to see it as an organisation that harnesses their sons’ resourcefulness and helps mould them into good citizens.

National Executive Commissioner George Bailey, Chief Scout Commissioner Deak Cupid and Deputy Chief Commissioner Federick Forbes echoed similar sentiments.

A pleasing feature was the presence of three male parents who accompanied their sons as they pledged their allegiance. Commissioner Bailey encouraged these fathers to continue playing a pivotal role in their sons’ lives, especially in an era of male marginalisation.

The Park Hill Government School’s Cub Pack is into its 6th year of existence. Investiture exercises were previously held in 2004 and 2006. Wickham is ably assisted by Hueline Brewster.
