The highly anticipated event organized by promoter Regis ‘Splectron’ Williams takes place at the Victoria Park tomorrow and is slated to start at 8 pm.

According to Splectron, the event is organized in an effort to recognize the contribution of the persons who kept Vincentians entertained over the past year.

“This is not singled out to singers only, but we are recognizing the contribution of the dancers, comedians, producers and personalities.”

Splectron indicated that a percentage of the night’s gate receipts will go towards Haiti relief efforts.

Apart from the regular awards up for grabs, Splectron indicated that there are a number of competitions where the average person can vie and win various prizes.

“I have $500 for the guy in the skinniest jeans.”

“There is also a beer drinking competition, a big belly man competition and an ugly man competition.”

“I want somebody else to win the ugly man competition this year, so I won’t be contesting this year,” Splectron joked.

On a more serious side, nominees for the coveted Man of the Year are Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace, and radio announcers E. G. Lynch and Too Cool Chris.

DJ of the year nominees are DJ Taurus, DJ Shane, DJ Danovan, Too Cool Chris and DJ Fugitive.

Male Entertainer of the year nominees are Fireman Hooper, Skinny Fabulous, Jamesy P, and Problem Child.

The Best dance group finalists are Xtatic dancers, Ground Breakers, Cross over dancers and Touch Down dancers.

Other categories include female entertainer of the year, best new artiste, producer of the year, band of the year, best soca single, best music video, reggae artiste of the year, MC of the year, crew of the year, party boat of the year, and entertainment journalist of the year, among others.

A number of the night’s nominees are expected to perform at the event, and there will also be a moment of silence for entertainers and performers who have passed on in recent years.

Splectron, who has been in the entertainment industry for more than 15 years, and has successfully organized a number of shows, boat rides, television shows and parties throughout the years, promises that the Fair of the Year will be one of the greatest shows of 2010.

“I can guarantee that nominees and fans will be fully satisfied with what will take place at Victoria Park tomorrow night.”
