Parked jeep stolen from Prospect man

Prospect resident Jimmy John is still baffled as to how someone was able to drive his locked vehicle away from his home, while he slept just yards away. {{more}}

John was awakened by his uncle at about 1:30 on Monday morning and told that his four door, black Suzuki Escudo, license plate number PP7, had been driven out of his yard by an unknown person or persons.

“My uncle heard the vehicle starting up,” John related.

Then when he came to the door, he saw that the front door was still latched from inside. He came to my room and saw that I was still asleep. That’s when he woke me up and told me the jeep was gone.”

John said that when he got up, he immediately looked for his car key, which he found still on its key ring. He said that the spare key was safely secured with his girlfriend who lives with him.

“I always lock my jeep and I don’t lend anybody my vehicle. I don’t know how they could have taken it.”

A few hours before, at about 9 p.m., John had returned from Sunday shopping.

Feeling tired, the shop operator said that he went to bed about an hour and a half later thinking all was safe and secure.

When SEARCHLIGHT spoke with him on Monday afternoon, John, who is also employed at Allan Smith and Family Bakery, said he has not slept since the vehicle was taken.

Appearing cool and calm on the outside, John declared that it was difficult to put his true feelings into words.

“I depend on my vehicle to get to work. I use it for my business. I already had my day line up to pick up items for the shop. I almost feel like if I catch somebody I could kill them.”

Although hopeful, John said that he is not too optimistic about the recovery of his jeep.

He said that he is concerned about the condition that the vehicle may be returned in, and some other important items that were in the glove compartment.

“My Visa card, my ID card and my driver’s license were in the jeep. I just put a new stereo in but that is material. I need to get those other things back.”

Up to press time, police were investigating the matter.
