Actors, Actresses to be rewarded

Participants in this year’s National Commercial Bank (NCB) Ministry of Culture Theatre Arts Festival will be awarded for their work this Sunday at the Drammy Awards.{{more}}

The awards ceremony will commence at 7 pm and the Peace Memorial Hall and is free to the public.

Each drama group that participated in the Theatre Arts Festival will present awards to their outstanding performers in different categories and will perform scenes from their production. Awards will also be given to persons who have contributed the art form in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Theatre Arts Festival ran from October 30 to November 29, 2009. Groups featured at the festival include the Community College Performing Arts Society who opened the festival with their presentation “Old Story Time”, The Methodist Dramatists with their production “Behind the Walls” the Nurses Drama Club performed “If me bin know.” The Police drama club presented their production “Be Content” and the Urban Expressions with their production “The Perfect Lie-The Life of Granny Mable.”

Drama Development Officer of the National Theatre Arts Festival Committee Martin Quahsie stated that the festival was of a high standard and said that all groups must be complimented for producing quality shows. Public Relations Officer Sean Frederick stated that based on the audience response, the festival was a success and thanked the public and the corporate sectors for their contribution.

The theatre arts festival was held under the theme “Upholding the Creative Arts by Community Participation.”
