Skinny Fabulous dominates 2009 International Soca Awards

Skinny Fabulous, who was recently added to the Pyramid Entertainment Inc. roster, was the big winner for the 2009 International Soca Awards (iSA), coming out tops in five categories. Despite the actual ceremony being cancelled, fans cast their votes online for their favourite soca artists to select the winners under the 36 categories outlined for this year.{{more}}

The Vincentian monarch was adjudged the Best New Male Soca Artist and tied with Machel Montano for the titles Male Performer of the Year and Overall Male Soca Artist of the Year. His song Head Bad received the top votes in the categories Favourite Uptempo Soca (male) and Soca Song of the Year.

Meanwhile, fellow Pyramid artist Peter Ram was nominated in three categories and came out as the winner in two with his song Tight. First the Jay Will produced video tied with Destra Garcia’s Hott for the Best Soca Music Video and then the track tied with Bunji’s Banana, alongside Machel’s Fly Away for Ragga Soca Song of the Year.

Lil Rick rounded out the winnings for the Pyramid troop by copping the Best DJ Soca Artist (DJ that sings) with his song Thunder tying with Super Jigga TC’s Frontline.

According to a press release from the Soca Awards Organisation, the 7th annual International Soca Awards show which was scheduled for December 4 in the Turks & Caicos Islands had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

Nevertheless, the show’s promoters assure the public that next year’s awards show will be one to remember. “The 2010 International Soca Awards show will be a renowned and unforgettable award ceremony. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this year’s cancellation may have caused,” explained Colin Jackman… “SAO will be presenting the 2009 iSA honourees and winners with their respective awards at another disclosed time. However, SAO is happy to announce the results and congratulates all the winners of the 2009 iSA.”
