The delivery was a cooperative effort of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Good News, the Catholic Diocese of Kingstown and the US Air Force.

The supplies, which include medical and school supplies, are to be distributed to schools from Clare Valley to Owia, including the Sunshine Pre-school in Bequia and hospitals and clinics throughout the country.

This is the second shipment under the Denton Programme since its resumption in 2008.

The programme allows for donor agencies in the United States to transport aid to countries like St Vincent and the Grenadines on military aircraft.

While there is usually more aid than available airlift, explained Major Stephen Collier, an increasing number of aircraft are now being made available for such missions.
