Alliance Francaise celebrating forty years

The Alliance Francaise turns 40.

And to celebrate, a list of activities is being scheduled beginning Monday, November 9.{{more}}

Founded in 1969 by Lennox John following his return from studies in England, including a brief stint in France, the Alliance Francaise was grounded here.

From the early days of F. I. Jack, Alliance Francaise has since evolved from a regular social club, with meetings at the Grammar School, into a full fledged organization that offers scholarships to teachers of French and caters to teaching the general public the joys associated with knowledge of a second language.

Since the informal days out of John’s car, Alliance Francaise has even gotten its own home, having moved to their present location at the former Carnegie Library in 1996.

“It’s been an incremented increase in the way we have managed to develop the Alliance over the years,” John said during a press conference Tuesday.

According to Flavia Howard, Secretary, the organization is continuing to expand its services as the committee of today looks to keep the initial vision alive today.

A range of classes offered is opened to different sectors, including taxi drivers, tourism officials and police officers.

The week-long list of activities begins with an exhibition and continues throughout the week to include a film festival, art and craft workshop, and ends on November 13 with a Gala night and concert.
