Officer celebrates 29 years in police force
As Vincentians celebrate 30 years of political independence, one police officer of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force has achieved a milestone of his own.{{more}}
On October 15, Station Sergeant Kenneth Skerritt celebrated 29 years of service in the Local Constabulary.
Speaking to the stalwart earlier this week, Skerritt heâs glad to have reached such a milestone in his life and career. âI am just happy I live to see this moment,â Skerritt said.
Throughout his years, Skerritt worked at the Special Service Unit (SSU), the Telecoms branch and other departments. However, it was in 1987 that Skerritt was transferred to the Coast Guard service where he spent 18 years and nine months. In November 2005, Skerritt was transferred to the Central Police Station where he now serves.
The veteran officer also came in for high praise from High Court Judge, Justice Gertel Thom, President of the Bar Association Kay Bacchus-Browne and Lawyer Duane Daniel at the sitting of the Criminal Assizes at the High Court.
Looking back, Skerritt said that when he joined, the force was not as advanced as it is today. âIn my time, I think the only branch outside was the Coast Guard and now the force is more advanced with more technology and more trained personnel,â he said.
For young police officers and persons who may want to join the police force, Skerritt urged them to remain focussed and be loyal to the organisation. âAlways strive to be disciplined and it will help you to empower yourself, he said. (KW)
