Last week Friday, Marketing Executive at Digicel Edmund Joachim handed over a sponsorship cheque to Headmistress of the Girls’ High School (GHS) Andrea Bowman. The Vincy Homecoming Secondary School Miss Heritage Pageant was the brainchild of a few members of the GHS staff.

Receiving the money, Bowman commented: “Digicel’s contribution goes a long way and it shows that they have confidence in us.” Bowman added that the money given by Digicel has helped make the pageant “great”, while revealing that the telecommunications company’s donation has helped tremendously with the finances related to staging a pageant of this nature.

In reply, Joachim said that Digicel sees the Miss Heritage Pageant as an event that has grown in stature and that it has spread to the various schools across the country instead of just the GHS. The pageant was in the past held as a GHS school event and opened only to girls from that institution.

“We realized the dedication and commitment of the committee and we decided to help them take the show forward,” said Joachim, while adding: “This show is a way to encourage students to take pride in what they do”.

Joachim also urged persons to come out “and support the young ladies and see what they have to offer in terms of celebrating our 30th anniversary of independence.”

The show will see performances from nine young ladies from various secondary schools throughout the island.
