VINLEC to observe ‘Safety Week 2009’ from September 13 – 19
St. Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC) will observe âSafety Week 2009â from September 13th -19th under the theme âSafety is the way – Live it every day.â The week is being observed to heighten awareness among employees about the importance of safety at the workplace, bearing in mind the environment in which VINLEC employees operate.{{more}}
The Company is also aware that it is important that our operations are kept as safe considering the potential for danger in areas such as fuel handling, equipment installation, operation and maintenance, as well as administrative functions.
Several activities have been organized to include employees, as well as the public, to highlight the importance of safety in the industry. Employees will attend a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday 13th at the Faith Temple Church from 9 am. The official opening ceremony will take place at Cane Hall on Monday 14th and will hear brief addresses from Company officials. At the opening ceremony, there will also be safety song, drama and poetry competitions among departments.
The launch of a series of public exhibitions on âPublic Safetyâ will also take place on Monday 14th at the Corporate Office in Kingstown, Cane Hall, as well as the out-stations. These will run until Friday 18th. The activities will continue on Tuesday (15th) morning with a Seminar on the Use and Care of Personal Protective Equipment, while the afternoon session will focus on the environment with tree-planting at all VINLEC locations and selected public locations.
The activities will also include fire drills at all locations, fire extinguisher practical sessions, pole top rescue training sessions, health checks and presentations and a public speaking competition. The activities will culminate on Saturday, September 19th, with a Wellness Walk.
Safety Week is being observed by VINLEC for the fourth consecutive year.
