This was disclosed by Dr. Joel Warrican, Director of the SVGCC, on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at a press conference held at the Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies located at Villa.
The director said that the SVGCC will be asking the University of the West Indies (UWI) to have them franchise their Bachelor of Education programme so that this programme can be offered at the Division of Teacher Education from September next year. He said efforts are also being made to have a Bachelor of Nursing among the offerings at the Division of Nursing.
He disclosed that the SVGCC has received a letter from the University of West England inquiring how they can partner with the local academic institution, said Dr. Warrican. He expressed that this institution is interested in offering degrees at the Bachelorâs level also.
These degrees will be taught by the SVGCC, but at the end of the programmes, students will get their degrees from the British institution. No agreement has yet been made the Director, however, said.
Also, Edexcel of England has indicated an interest in operating in St.Vincent and the Grenadines.
Representatives of that institution will be meeting with the SVGCC on October 1, 2009, to make a presentation to the deans and faculty members of the various divisions to show how they can be of service to the SVGCC.
âThe good thing about them is that they are not too expensive and they try to use whatever existing programme you have and tailor their programme to work with the institution to form a course that is not outside of what is already offered by the institution,â said Dr.Warrican.
He said where you do not have the course, Edexcel come in and help the institution that they are working with to come up with a curriculum.
Dr.Warrican said their offerings include Health Services, Hospitality, Business, and Technical subjects.(HN)
