Digicel brings cheer to Sandy Bay youths

04.SEP.09

Last Saturday, Digicel brought smiles to the faces of children and parents alike in the North Windward villages of Sandy Bay and Point.{{more}}

The smiles were as a result of the distribution of bags, books and pens by Digicel staff members in recognition of the beginning of a new school term on Monday.

Distributing the school supplies was Marketing Manger Juno DeRoche. DeRoche explained that Digicel took the initiative because of the fact that parents sometimes find it hard to make ends meet in this challenging financial climate. Approximately fifty children benefitted from the initiative.

In the village of Point, a number of parents came out to witness the donations as their children willingly left their various games and playtime activities to receive the school supplies. Further along in Point, a game of beach cricket was quickly abandoned, while the boys lined up to collect the free supplies. In Sandy Bay, the young ones lined up to receive the books, bags and pens from DeRoche.

Said DeRoche, “During this hard economic period and education being the key, it is in Digicel’s interest to foster and aid the nation’s future leaders”.

The initiative is expected to continue.
