Local volunteers aboard the ship and crew members spoke to Searchlight about their experience on Logos Hope and its stay in St. Vincent.

Crewmember Graham Jack revealed that he observed many teary eyes on board as persons who had made friendships with local volunteers said their goodbyes. Jack, the leader of Public Administries, said that he has had “the best time in St. Vincent”, adding that the people are very friendly. His responsibilities include overseeing the book fair, sending teams off ship to minister and interact with locals and every other public aspect associated with the ship’s visit.

Crew member and Media Relations Officer Sam Kwan had great things to say about his visit to St.Vincent: “The people are really friendly,” he said smiling. Kwan, who is from Singapore, has been aboard Logos Hope for one year, and said he had a challenging but fulfilling time aboard. “It’s a place where I can really learn about myself and my relationship with God,” he said, adding that living aboard a ship with over 300 persons has taught him how to live with other Christians.

Searchlight also spoke to captain of Logos Hope Dirk Colenbrander who said that the trip to St. Vincent went very well. Relating his visits to the Botanic Gardens and the Windward side of the island, Colenbrander described St. Vincent as a beautiful place and his interaction with volunteers aboard as very good.

The local volunteers had nothing but good things to say of their experience on the Logos Hope. Searchlight spoke with one volunteer and three members of the local committee who all expressed how great the experience was, saying they hoped it would last longer. Amanda Peters, a volunteer, and committee members Kyrle Walker, Momselle London and Cheris Myers all related that they enjoyed the interaction with the friendly persons aboard and the many different cultures they were exposed to. “God was the main purpose of the mission,” Peters declared. The girls took part in several activities, including assisting in customer service, laundry and accommodation and the overall visitor’s experience.

Coordinator of the local committee for Logos Hope Kenyatta Lewis told Searchlight that four Vincentians have decided to join the Logos Hope on a short term basis. Operation Mobilization (OM) Caribbean representative Meagan Ingram said that she has received a number of applications from Vincentians interested in joining the ship. According to Ingram, Operational Mobilization operates in over 100 countries worldwide.

Persons interested in joining the ship’s mission to bring knowledge help and hope to countries around the world can apply at www.logoshope.org. Applicants must be 18 years or older, must be a Christian and belong to a church that offers spiritual support.(OS)
