Drug testing lab in Barbados under repair
For the remainder of this month or so, no cannabis or cocaine will be sent to the drug testing facility in Barbados for testing, as the lab there is currently under repair.{{more}}
Commissoner of Police Keith Miller disclosed this in a brief interview with Searchlight on Wednesday after persons charged with possession of controlled substances had their matters adjourned to a later date and were told by the Serious Offences Court that the drugs had not been tested.
Just last week, many disgruntled persons could be heard murmuring as they made their way out of the courtroom after showing up in the hope of having their matter dealt with.
When quizzed about the Drug testing lab that was commissioned here some months ago, Miller that they were awaiting assistance from the Barbados Forensic Lab to get matters off the ground. He also noted there are legal matters that have to be cleared up before the lab is fully operational. âThere are some legal matters that have to pass by the Attorney General before testing can be done here and as soon as these thing are ironed out we should get the lab up and runningâ Miller said.
The Lab is Barbados is expected to be fully operational again by the start of September.
