Vincentians invited to celebrate Labour Day Weekend in New York

07.AUG.09

A New York-based group is inviting all Vincentians to celebrate Labor Day Weekend with several planned events.

On Saturday, September 5th, from 10 p.m., the annual Labor Day Vincy Soca Extravaganza is scheduled to be held at the Aviator Sports and Recreation facility.{{more}} The Aviator Sports and Recreation facility is located at the Floyd Bennett Field, Hanger 5, 3159 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11234; just South of Belt Parkway, Exit 11S.

According to the promoters, the event is intended to be a pure Vincy party featuring some of the top Vincentian performers. The show features a spectacular line-up that includes Skinny Fabulous, Problem Child, Fryktion, Lively, Zoelah, Icon, Gideon James, Scorcher, and Becket among others backed by the Hottsand band featuring Adrian Bailey. The show will also feature four prominent DJs; Hailes Castello, Yung Hova, and EZ Sounds based in New York, along with 2 Kool Chris out of SVG. The promoters have established exclusivity for all artistes performing on this show. This arrangement ensures that the artistes only appear at this single event and avoids the confusion and misinformation that have plagued these types of events in the past.

The stated mission of the group hosting the event is to return the annual Vincentian Labor Day weekend Saturday night celebration, which has historically been a fixture and hallmark of the weekend activities to the standard it once held. The New York Labor Day weekend event is by far the largest gathering for Vincentians in the US and facilitates the coming together of Vincentians as a people to renew friendships and celebrate their culture and heritage.

In an extraordinary effort to ensure that everyone wishing to attend the event is able to, the organizers have arranged transportation to take patrons to and from the event venue. Transportation will be available from two locations in Brooklyn, Church Avenue/East 95th Street and also from Church Avenue/Utica Avenue between 11:30p.m. and 1a.m. to take patrons to the show. Transportation will also be provided back to the fore mentioned locations.

The Saturday Night party will be followed by a ‘Midnight Boatride’ (Blanc sur Blanc – All White) on Sunday Night, September 6th 2009, 11:30p.m. – 5a.m. This is also an annual event and will be aboard the Atlantica, a luxury cruise line that specializes in hosting boat cruises in the NY area. The entertainment will feature several prominent DJs and special guest appearances by many of the top soca artistes that will be performing at the Saturday night event including Skinny Fabulous, Problem Child, Lively, Zoelah, and Fryktion. The boat will leave Sheepshead Bay, Pier #10 in Brooklyn NY and will sail up to Manhattan.

The organizers are looking forward to everyone’s full support in making these events an overwhelming success.

For tickets and more information on the events, contact Donna (646) 763-4921, Hailes (917) 476-3843, Attie (347) 432-5384, Gary (347) 448-1617, Artis (917) 531-8342 in the US, or Kevin (784) 528-7489 in St. Vincent.
