On July 23, the Lower Trigger Ridge Development Organisation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SVGSIF for the provision of EC$250,000 to execute the project.
The signing took place at a short ceremony held at the Anglican Church building at Redemption Sharpes.
President of the organisation, Julian Morgan, said the community has 160 residents who are in the lower income bracket. He said it also has a high level of unemployment and within recent times has been plagued by an increase in violent activities.
Morgan said that residents also had to endure the lack of a proper road and drainage system and quite often had suffered injuries while journeying to and from their homes.
Area representative Conrad Sayers in his remarks praised the young people of the community for showing commitment to improving their community.
He told the residents that the project was important, as it would increase the value of their properties.
âYou and your children and your family are going to have a sense of pride, a sense of greater self-respect and it is likely your children will do better in school because they feel motivated with those infrastructure,â he said.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SVGSIF, Bentley Browne said the project was âlong in comingâ. He said that with the development of communities there would be a need for the construction of roads. He pledged his commitment to seeing the project completed on schedule.
âI am going to tell you it is going to be a very challenging job; we want to work in about three months to complete the job and we want to work during the rainy season.â
He asked the residents to cooperate with the relevant authorities during the construction phase.
âWe are going to ask you to bear with us, work with us, and if problems arise, let us try to solve them together,â he pleaded.
SVGSIF is collaborating with the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to carry out the project.
