Vincy mas winners on the regional stage

While 2009 Soca Monarch Gamal ‘Skinny Fabulous’ Doyle was narrowly edged out of a second title this year, all hopes are that Miss SVG Veronique Williams will be more successful in her second regional pageant.{{more}}

Williams who was crowned Miss SVG in May, is scheduled to participate in the 48th annual Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show in Antigua on July 31st.

The North Leeward resident is expected to compete against eleven other delegates in four categories: swim wear, talent, evening wear and interview.

She will also make an un-judged introductory appearance. Williams leaves here Tuesday 28th and returns on August 2nd.

Earlier this week, on Sunday, July 19th, this country’s back to back soca monach had to settle for second place in the OECS Soca Monarch competition, which was held at the National Stadium in Castries, St. Lucia.

Performing his 2009 winner ‘The beast let go’, Doyle lost by 2.5 points to St. Lucian Ricky T, with his song ‘Like Jumbie’, which is incidentally on the same V-12 rhythm as Doyle’s ‘beast’.

The close loss has not put a damper on the spirits on the skinny one, who has a slate of events lined up for the next few months.

These include tours to Canada, the United States, The UK and other regional venues.(JJ)
