For the first two weeks, the students started at the Tissue Culture Lab to learn how to propagate plants under sterile conditions and produce clones of a plant. The 3rd week, they did practicals in the Tree Crop plot to understand the procedure of setting seeds and planting seedlings into the crates, the method of grafting, air-layering, pruning and harvesting. The Final week was spent at the Agro-Food Processing Laboratory to learn the procedure of food processing by using different machines. Working at this lab has helped them to understand new ways of making different products derived from local grown fruits.
The young women stated that the job training experience has given them new ideas and a clear knowledge and understanding of how and when certain procedures are done. The training also opened their minds to new and important ideas which they think will be of significant benefit to SVG in the future. James and Humphrey said that they will advise other students to engage in agriculture, working hand in hand with the Taiwan Technical Mission.
The Chief of the Taiwan Technical Mission, Chin-Yu LEE, indicated that both young women performed excellently during their job training period at the Mission. Chief Lee also emphasized that the Mission welcomes more students to come to the Mission to learn more about modern agricultural techniques and knowledge in order to benefit local agricultural development in the future.
