CXC to Honour “Class of ‘79” for CSEC 30th Anniversary
The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) will honour over 120 people from across the region as part of activities to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.{{more}}
The Council will host two awards functions in July. The first will be held in Barbados on July 10th and the other will be hosted in Jamaica on July 15th.
At the functions, CXC will recognize those persons who contributed to the successful administration of the first CSEC examinations in 1979. Those to be recognised include members of CXC staff in 1979; members of the five Subject Panels, members of the five Examining Committees and markers who marked in 1979 and are still making in 2009.
The ceremony in Barbados will be hosted at the Christ Church Parish Church Centre. Honourable Ronald Jones, Minister of Education and Human Resource in Barbados, will address the function.
The featured speaker will be Professor Anselm Hennis, a Medical Doctor and a former student at Harrison College in Barbados who wrote the first CSEC examinations in 1979.
The ceremony in Jamaica will be hosted at the Hilton Hotel in Kingston. Honourable Andrew Holness, Minister of Education in Jamaica, is expected address the function. The guest speaker will be Mr Cliff Hughes, a Media Manager and Talk-show host in Jamaica. Mr Hughes, a former student of Excelsior High School, Jamaica, wrote the first CSEC examinations in 1979.
CXC first offered five subjects- Caribbean History, English, Geography, Integrated Science and Mathematics in 1979 for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC). The Council now offers 33 subjects at CSEC.
