Switch to Digital TV not required in SVG
The National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission is advising the public that the advertisements seen on US television with regard to the switch to Digital TV and the need for convertor boxes only apply to the United States and do not affect us here in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}
On June 12th, 2009, all television broadcasters in the United States were required by law to switch to digital broadcasting. This change in the way that Americans are receiving television signals over the air means that their television broadcast signals are now similar to what is received by a computer, and some television sets will not work with these new signals unless a convertor box is purchased.
However, in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines no changes are required by our local television broadcasters, and local television sets will still receive signals as normal without purchasing extra equipment. All persons currently receiving local broadcast from SVG TV using their TV antennas will continue to do so. Also, persons wishing to purchase new television sets from the United States should note that they will still work with the signals being broadcast by SVG TV for the next several years.
