KPS Learning Resource Centre refurbished

Students and teachers of the Kingstown Preparatory School are benefiting from the improved facilities in their Learning Resource Centre.

At a handing over ceremony at the school on Monday, May 25th, Project Coordinator Johnatan Noel presented the results of his laborious efforts to refurbish the centre.{{more}} This project was part of the requirements to complete his bachelor’s degree in Educational Administration – which he is pursuing through the University of the West Indies Open Campus.

In brief remarks, Noel, a Grade Two teacher, explained that the project had been completed in four stages. These included unpacking of books, cleaning and painting of walls, electrical installation, and placing of books on shelves.

The project cost just over EC$15,000, with $2,500 contributed by Noel’s fund-raising efforts. “The project was successful!” he beamed. He also expressed a desire to see students and teachers fully utilizing the improved facility. “I hope it will be beneficial to you, and that you will use it to the best of its capability.”

The Learning Resource Centre has been retiled and repainted. There are also new electric fans, improved lighting, a new computer, new books, cupboards and desks, and the introduction of a television set, DVD player and a radio/CD player.

Principal Morine Williams, in her address, shared her pleasure at the successful completion of this project, which began in January 2009. She was extremely grateful for Noel’s dedication and commitment, and wished him all the best in completing his degree.

Noel profusely thanked the donors, which included LIME, Ace Hardware Store, Buyers’ Best and Finishing & Furnishing. He further thanked his colleagues for their full support and encouragement, especially Principal Morine Williams. He also thanked students and their parents for their contributions, and the Ministry of Transport and Works for its involvement. (JSV)
