Sion Hill school gets Audio/visual centre

The more than 200 pupils of the Sion Hill Government School are on the path to technological literacy, with the handing over of keys to the school’s very own audio/visual resource centre.{{more}}

The keys were handed over to school principal Verona Richards by Eve Knights, a teacher at the institution. Knights undertook the project in partial fulfillment of the requirements of her degree in Education Management, which she completed through the University of the West Indies.

The centre, which is located in a refurbished classroom, was completed in just about four months at a cost of over EC$15,000.

The centre is equipped with a multimedia projector, one television, a DVD player, headphones and a number of white boards.

Apart from funds raised by the teachers, students and the community, Knights indicated that donations to the project were made by Courts St. Vincent Ltd., C&R Enterprises, Kingstown Cooperative Credit Union (KCCU), General Employees Cooperative Credit Union (GECCU), Teachers’ Credit Union among others.

Knights, who has been teaching for 18 years said that the resource centre will help students to improve their academic performances.

She said that as in other schools, the students and staff are gradually moving away from the old ‘chalk and talk’ method of teaching and learning.

Principal Verona Richards, on accepting the keys from Knights, said that the resource centre is of great benefit to the school and will build the students’ capacity to learn in the classroom.

She congratulated Knights on the completion of her project, and thanked those who assisted in making it a success.
