Chateaubelair youths vow to fight HIV/AIDS

After being around for close to a year now, the Chateaubelair Police Youth Club has matured into a functional community organization that is capable of tackling some of the tougher issues of the day.{{more}}

From physical fitness to drug abuse and the environment; the group is now focusing some attention on HIV/AIDS. Last Sunday, the group in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Environment and the Richmond Vale Academy led a candle light march from the Mission Corner to the Sharpes Park in Chateaubelair.

The group, which includes members from Rose Bank and Petit Bordel, performed skits, sang and danced, but the highlight of the evening was a play titled “The End Result”, which examined certain behaviors which lead to life styles that leave one vulnerable to a life of regret.

Area representative Dr Jerrol Thompson, in delivering the feature address, told the gathering that they should be knowledgeable about HIV and show support and love to those afflicted.

Corporal Brown stationed at the Chateaubelair Police Station and the person in charge of the group told SEARCHLIGHT that his vision for the group is to see the youths become disciplined and equipped with the right tools to positively influence other young people and impact their communities and the country as a result.
