SVGNA celebrates Nurses’ Week

With a packed calendar of events, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Nurses’ Association (SVGNA) will be celebrating Nurses’ Week 2009, running from May 10 – 16, under the theme: ‘Delivering quality, serving communities – nurses leading in care innovation’.{{more}}

President of the SVGNA Raphael K. John explained that the activities have been extended into the more rural areas because they are usually centred in and around Kingstown. “We want to encourage more people to take part.” Furthermore, John beseeched the public to patronize the events and increase their awareness of the SVGNA and its function/role in the health care system.

The week will kick off with addresses on Radio NBC from the Minister of Health Douglas Slater and the Chief Nursing Officer, on Sunday, May 10 – as well as nurses attending their various churches in full uniform. On Monday, May 11, the Georgetown Health Centre will play host to a Community Health Evaluation and Education exercise; with International Nurses’ Day observed on Tuesday, May 12.

A Professional Development Programme Awards Ceremony will be held at the Peace Memorial Hall on Wednesday, May 13, from 3 – 5pm. Following that, the activities will cross the waters to Bequia on Thursday, May 14, with another community health evaluation and education exercise at the Port Elizabeth Hospital.

On Friday, May 15, the Division of Nursing Education Students’ Association will be hosting a fun-filled Sports Day tentatively being held at the St. Vincent Grammar School Playing Field from 9 am until 2 pm.

To culminate this week of activities, there will be an Annual General Meeting on Saturday, May 16, at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital Outpatient Department from 1 pm.
