Students receive National Awards

The achievement of more than 50 students in the 2008 Common Entrance (CE) and the CXC/CSEC examinations did not go unheeded, as the Ministry of Education and Communications Company LIME recognized them for their efforts on Thursday, April 30.{{more}}

Among those honoured at The National Awards Ceremony were the top ten students in the May/June CE examinations, the top performer for each secondary school in the CSEC exams, the school with the most improved CSEC results, the top male and female students after remediation and top male and female national performers.

Some outstanding students and accomplishments included Kyle James of the Kingstown Preparatory School who topped the

CEE, the Girls’ High School, which returned the best CSEC results and Shurneil Cruickshank of the Bishop’s College Kingstown, who received the LIME award for the student with the best results after remediation.

The Troumaca Secondary, with a 13 per cent increase in passes at CSEC was the school with the most improved CSEC results.

Former Girls’ High School student Chryste DaSilva, now a student of the St. Vincent Community College was recognized as the top female and top national performer; she secured grade ones in her twelve subjects, and Ezron John, formerly of the St. Vincent Grammar School, who was the top Male performer. Denise Westfield of the Girls’ High School was also awarded for writing the best short story in the entire region in the 2008 CSEC English A examinations.

Acting Prime Minister Sir Louis Straker congratulated the students for their hard work and achievements, and urged that they remember to show gratitude to their parents and teachers for making the success possible.

Also addressing and congratulating the students, parents and well wishers gathered at the Methodist Church Hall, were Minister of Education Girlyn Miguel, Chief Education Officer Susan Dougan and Acting Country Manager of LIME Lydia Courtney-Francis. (JJ)
