Bishop’s College student receives LIME award

LIME, St Vincent and the Grenadines leading communications company is again in the news for excellent work. This time LIME has teamed up again with the Ministry of Education to reward students from primary and secondary schools for scholastic achievements in the May/June 2008 CSEC and Common Entrance examinations. Among the many students receiving awards was Shurneil Cruickshank, former student of the Bishop’s College Kingstown. Shurneil copped the LIME award for the student with the Best Results after Remediation.{{more}}

For the fifth year running, LIME has placed this event firmly into its yearly sponsorship calendar and Country Manager (Ag) Lydia Courtney-Francis said “Whenever we associate our brand with something positive we tend to keep a firm grip on it. It is important we celebrate excellence because these students worked very hard to achieve their grades and they ought to be rewarded for that. One of LIME’s core areas of sponsorship is Education along with Culture and Sports and this just compliments what we have been doing over the years with Internet summer school, schools debating and schools drama festival. The Ministry should consider rewarding the teacher with the best results in future ceremonies since this can set up competition among other teachers, and believe me, competition brings out the best in all of us.”

Shurniel Cruickshank was registered as a student at the Bishop’s College Kingstown from September 2002 until July 2006, when she graduated. During this time she progressed to the Fifth Form and was registered for nine (9) subjects at CXC/CSEC in the May/June 2008 Examinations. She obtained passes in eight subjects English A, English B, Caribbean History, Geography, Social Studies, Human & Social Biology, Electronic Document Preparation & Management (EDPM), and Principles of Business (POB).

Shurniel made a positive contribution to school life. She was involved in several sporting disciplines and represented the school on numerous occasions in Drama, where she won an award for Best Supporting Actress in the 2007 Drama Festival. Shurniel was also involved in dance and music. Clearly, she has an aptitude for the Performing Arts.

During her tenure at Bishop’s College, she was ‘an average’ student whose conduct and decorum were more than satisfactory. Her overall attendance and punctuality records were good. Shurniel enjoyed a good relationship with her peers and her teachers alike.

Shurneil was very pleased to receive this award and commented “I want to continue my studies in Sociology. Whenever I meet obstacles I get the urge to overcome them. I will be continuing my studies from September and then it’s straight off to University. I was very surprised to receive this award since my teacher called me and told me to dress nice and come to the Methodist Church Hall. This is good reward for hard work.”
