A total of 13 students from Secondary Schools throughout the nation are presently listed to participate in the competition, vying for one of eight spots in the finals. One Vincentian living in the Diaspora will also be competing in the final round of competition.

The schools include: Campden Park Secondary, The St Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua, North Union Secondary, Georgetown Secondary, Sandy Bay Secondary, Thomas Saunders Secondary, West St George Secondary, Bishop’s College Kingstown, Buccament Secondary, St Clair Dacon Secondary, George Stephens Secondary and host the Girls’ High School. The pageant will be held under the theme: “As you cite it, our national heritage”

Deputy Director of the Regional Integration and Diaspora Unit, Nerissa Gittens said that Vincy Homecoming is a tool used to bridge the generation gap that exists between young Vincentians here and those abroad. She added that the programme is also geared at bringing home Vincentians abroad to celebrate this country’s 30th year of independence.

Meanwhile Headmistress of the Girls’ High School, Andrea Bowman expressed sincere thanks to the Vincy Homecoming committee for partnering with the school in such an undertaking. She also thanked mobile telecommunications company, Digicel for their contributions to the event and the tokens given to the participants. Bowman noted that she is confident that the show will be successful and of a high quality.

Last year’s winner Tizzianna Browne encouraged the participants to take the pageant seriously and have fun while doing it. She also told the students to balance their time wisely and not to forget their schoolwork.

On the night of the pageant, the students will be making appearances in Cultural Talent, Ambassadorial Speech, Interview and Cultural wear. (KW)
