Vincy Homecoming 2009 now has an added attraction on its calendar of events, as the Girlsâ High School opens its arms to schools across the nation to include them in its Vincy Homecoming Secondary Schoolsâ Miss Heritage Pageant on October 23 at concert capital, Victoria Park.{{more}}
A total of 13 students from Secondary Schools throughout the nation are presently listed to participate in the competition, vying for one of eight spots in the finals. One Vincentian living in the Diaspora will also be competing in the final round of competition.
The schools include: Campden Park Secondary, The St Josephâs Convent Marriaqua, North Union Secondary, Georgetown Secondary, Sandy Bay Secondary, Thomas Saunders Secondary, West St George Secondary, Bishopâs College Kingstown, Buccament Secondary, St Clair Dacon Secondary, George Stephens Secondary and host the Girlsâ High School. The pageant will be held under the theme: âAs you cite it, our national heritageâ
Deputy Director of the Regional Integration and Diaspora Unit, Nerissa Gittens said that Vincy Homecoming is a tool used to bridge the generation gap that exists between young Vincentians here and those abroad. She added that the programme is also geared at bringing home Vincentians abroad to celebrate this countryâs 30th year of independence.
Meanwhile Headmistress of the Girlsâ High School, Andrea Bowman expressed sincere thanks to the Vincy Homecoming committee for partnering with the school in such an undertaking. She also thanked mobile telecommunications company, Digicel for their contributions to the event and the tokens given to the participants. Bowman noted that she is confident that the show will be successful and of a high quality.
Last yearâs winner Tizzianna Browne encouraged the participants to take the pageant seriously and have fun while doing it. She also told the students to balance their time wisely and not to forget their schoolwork.
On the night of the pageant, the students will be making appearances in Cultural Talent, Ambassadorial Speech, Interview and Cultural wear. (KW)
