LRC for West St. George Secondary

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Social Investment Fund (SVGSIF) continues its support for uplifting literacy levels in St.Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}

On Wednesday, the SVGSIF signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Parent Teacher Association of the West St. George Secondary School to establish a Learning Resource Centre there.

SVGSIF will give EC$ 43,000 to the project, which will also serve the wider community.

The signing took place during the opening of the annual Career Day held at the school.

Deputy Principal (ag) at the school, Curtis King, said much like many others in the country, the school faced a challenge with slow readers.

He said they (staff at the school) had an option to complain or “do something” about the situation. “We have opted to do something,” he added.

King said SVGSIF was approached and he was grateful for the positive response.

He noted that the signing of the MOU was an indication of the serious commitment of the staff at the school to tackle the problem.

Senior Education Officer with responsibility for econdary schools, Carlton Hall, who represented the Ministry of Education at the function, said the project was timely because Information and Communication Technology was at present at the forefront of Education in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The SVGSIF had been working assiduously with the PTA of the school to get the project on stream. Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Bentley Browne, said the aim was to have the project delivered within four to six weeks time.

He told the students that by utilising the centre, it might prove to be another career option for them, as they can explore the field of Information Technology.

The total cost of the project is EC$56, 201. The PTA will have an input of EC$13, 200.
