New chapter for agriculture production and marketing

On April 14th, the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Leo LEE, visited the newly-established “Agriculture Production and Marketing Group (APMG) on Vegetables” in order to wish the Group ongoing success.{{more}}

APMG is an organized production-marketing model of agricultural produce, especially designed and suitable for farmers with small scale farms; like many farmers in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Group, consisting of eleven farmers from Rabacca, was organized by the Taiwan Technical Mission in March this year. They will take turns to produce eleven different vegetables according to the timetable designed by the Mission. The eleven vegetables are cabbage, tomato, broccoli, cauliflower, bean, eggplant, sweet corn, lettuce, cucumber, watermelon, sweat pepper and spinach. The Mission will offer the necessary support and technical assistance to enable them to improve their produce, and also help them to find regular buyers for their produce.

During his visit, Ambassador Lee met with Lenford Sampson, Selwyn Lavia and Ivo R. Harry from the Group. He exchanged views with them and encouraged them to cooperate with the Mission continuously. After the Ambassador’s visit, Sampson presented Ambassador Lee with a watermelon to show his appreciation. Ambassador Lee thanked him and promised that the Mission will do its best to help them.

The establishment of APMG is a direct response to a new clause on marketing in the Agreement on agricultural technical cooperation between the two countries, which will be signed and renewed by the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Leo Lee, and Agricultural Minister Daniel of St. Vincent and the Grenadines on April 23rd, 2009.
