Georgetown Secondary to get IT Lab, Steel Pans

The Georgetown Secondary School will soon have another Information Technology (IT) Laboratory, thanks to the St Vincent and the Grenadines Social Investment Fund (SVGSIF).{{more}}

Earlier today, two agreements were signed between the SVGSIF and the Parent Teacher Association of the Georgetown Secondary School for the expansion of the school’s steel band and the establishment of an IT Laboratory.

Principal of the school, Hilton Browne, said the IT Laboratory will also be accessible to residents of surrounding communities. He explained that although there was a steel band side at the school it was not big enough to enter competitions.

“We are also going to make a band the community can take part in,” he said.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SVGSIF, Bentley Browne, said his organisation was pleased to sign the two agreements. He told the students he hoped the Laboratory could be finished soon so they would be able to use it to enhance their studies.

He told the students that the pans would take a longer time as they had to be sourced from Trinidad and Tobago.

“We are going to ask you to take good care of the steel pans, IT Lab and equipment because we expect you to use these instruments to improve your quality of life,” he said.

The SVGSIF will be supplying EC$50,000 worth of steel pans to the school and EC$80,000 towards the establishment of the IT Laboratory. The school’s PTA will put EC$40,000 worth in works and kind towards the IT project.
