APA hosts one-day workshop

The Association of Parent Advocates, in collaboration with the St Vincent and the Grenadines Social Investment Fund, held a one day workshop titled “Providing parents and caregivers with basic tools and knowledge to improve their appreciation for and awareness of issues of sexuality of persons with developmental disabilities,” at the Doris McKie Learning Resource Centre, on Wednesday, April 8, at Cane Hall.{{more}}

Some of the topics discussed included sexuality, special care of persons with disabilities, among others.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Group facilitator Corletha Ollivierre said that the organisation was geared towards assisting persons with developmental issues who were vulnerable and unable to speak for themselves. Since the group’s establishment in 2006, Ollivierre noted that a number of workshops have been organized over the years, which has rallied parents to provide support.

Ollivierre added that the group hopes to carry out major projects, which include: the creation of employment and better dental services for persons with disabilities. She also implored parents and other stakeholders in society to support the association in their drive to develop the country. Ollivierre also thanked the Social Investment Fund for their contribution.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of SIF, Theophilus Shallow said that SIF was pleased to be associated with the Parent Advocates Association and assured the organisation of their full support with other activities. (KW)
