She added that although there are many challenges facing the institution, especially in the area of finances, the staff of the hospital remains committed to providing quality service to Vincentians.
Dr. Keizer also urged Vincentians to utilize the Accident and Emergency Department specifically for emergencies, and for other illnesses that are not emergencies, to make use of outpatient clinics.
She also noted that though the recent moves to enhance security on the hospital compound may have been met with initial resistance, the move is a necessary precaution to ensure the safety of patients and visitors. Dr. Keizer was speaking to the Agency for Public Information (API) on the occasion of World Health Day.
Also speaking to the API was Minister of Health Dr Douglas Slater. Dr. Slater said Cabinet has appointed an oversight committee to deal with the complaints from the public. He appealed to the public to refrain from verbally abusing the staff when visiting the hospital. He also urged the public to desist from littering the hospital compound when they visit.(API)
