Balliceaux Tourism project halted

At least one major potential Tourism development project has been negatively affected by the global recession.{{more}}

The developers, who had made a deposit to the owners of Balliceaux island for a proposed resort development, “are having difficulty raising all the necessary funds to begin the project,” Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves announced in Parliament last Thursday, March 26th.

The Prime Minister said that attempts are being made by the proposed developers to have another entity involved in the project.

He used the opportunity to also remind the House that any development on Balliceaux will take place, with care and consideration given to the Garifuna people who died there.

Similar thoughtfulness will be given to the bird sanctuary that is on Battawia Island, Dr Gonsalves said. (KJ)
