Gourmet Food opens at Cruise Ship Terminal

It’s official! Gourmet Food Supermarket from Sweden has opened a second supermarket in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}

The new outlet, located at the Kingstown Cruise Ship Terminal, opened its doors on March 12, 2009, and will facilitate persons who would like to buy the quality food products that the company sources from around the world, but find it inconvenient to travel to Calliaqua, where the company has its first branch.

Gourmet Food at the Cruise Ship Terminal will open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30p.m. Monday to Friday, and much later on weekends.

General Manager Mark Isaacs told SEARCHLIGHT that Gourmet Food offers a wide variety of food products which are not normally found in regular supermarkets, and this appeals to many customers who require something different.

The company specializes in all sizes of shrimp, many types of fillet fish, different cuts of quality meat, European sausages and individually frozen vegetables, French baguettes and specialty loaves. A wide selection of wine and high quality juices are also available.

Customers can also place orders for specialty food items, and Italian coffee, as well as lunches, will be offered for sale in the ambiance of the new facility.

Isaacs is ecstatic about doing business in the new location. He said the Kingstown Cruise Ship Terminal facility is of a high standard.

“As a quality food provider of food items from around the world, the new location matches our standard of doing things,” said Isaacs.

“We will do whatever it takes to give the Vincentian public what they want,” said Isaacs.

On Monday, March 23, 2009, Fredrik Svanberg,

proprietor of Gourmet Food Supermarket, on a week’s trip to St.Vincent and the Grenadines, visited the new location, along with Isaacs and Christian Fredriksson, one of the top chefs in Sweden who will be training local chefs in the preparation of Swedish dishes.

Svanberg, who has been travelling to St.Vincent and the Grenadines for 15 years, pointed out that Gourmet Food Supermarket is a shop for all Vincentians. “I want to emphasize that the Cruise Ship Terminal is open to all Vincentians, and our prices at the Gourmet outlet there are the same as those at the Calliaqua location,” said Svanberg.

Isaacs, on the other hand, noted that people are sometimes surprised at Gourmet Food’s ability to offer high quality food items at low rates. He said the secret lies in the company’s buying power. He said the company in Sweden is so huge that when it purchases large containers of food products, St.Vincent and the Grenadines is able to “piggy back” on it.

Traceability and food security takes top priority for Gourmet Food both in St.Vincent and the Grenadines and in Sweden, with all levels of documentation. Isaacs also stated that the food products are always frozen and there is no time when the products are defrosted.

Svanberg, who will be leaving St. Vincent on Sunday, disclosed that his company is looking to open several other outlets in the Grenadines, Grenada and St.Lucia. (HN)
