St. Mary’s Spiritual Baptist Church marks 50 years

The St. Mary’s Spiritual Baptist Church at Overland will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Sunday 22nd March 2009.{{more}}

The church was dedicated on Sunday 22nd March 1959 by its founder Archbishop Cosmore Pompey. Activities to celebrate this golden occasion will begin on Sunday and climax on Monday 22nd March 2010.

The year will be celebrated under the theme “Keep the fire burning” and will be launched on Sunday at a very special service at the Cathedral. The highlight of the service will the honouring of Archbishop Cosmore Pompey as the Patriarch of the Faith. He will be honoured by the Spiritual Baptist Archdiocese. The activity will be celebrated under the Theme “No by might, nor by power, but by the Spirit of the Lord”.

Added to Sunday’s activity, the church will hold activities throughout the week, which will include visitation to the sick. Tuesday will be prayer-day as the members will assemble at the church in groups for prayer between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. On Wednesday, a night of revival will take place.

The Youths will challenge the adults in a Bible quiz on Thursday, Friday 27th, the church will hold a thanksgiving service by setting a table, where members will bring fruits, vegetables and food and on Sunday, 29th March, there will be an explosion of songs and praise starting at 5:00 p.m.
