Spring Village Methodist youths win competition

The Spring Village Methodist group, on Sunday, March 1, 2009 walked away as overall winners of the Kingstown/Chateaubelair circuit Youth Month activities held at the Kingstown Methodist Church Hall.{{more}}

Held under the theme: “Holy Spirit, renew your church continually” the activities, which ran from February 1, saw the young people participate in the categories of: drama, dance, choir, bible quiz, public speaking and sports.

The Sion Hill Methodist Church took the top spot in the dance competition and Bible quiz, Arnos Vale reigned supreme in the choir, Brighton took home top honours for the public speaking competition while Troumaka and Spring

Village walked away with the sports and drama title respectively.

Reflecting on Youth Month, Youth Coordinator, Curt Baker said that he was pleased with the level of participation that was shown by the churches. Baker also outlined that plans are already afoot for next year’s Youth Month activities. He said that HIV/AIDS workshops would be setup to educate young people about the deadly disease.

Acknowledged for their outstanding work among the youth over the years were: Kevin Roderigues from the Kingstown Methodist Church, Curt Baker from the Spring Village Methodist Church and Hazel Thompson from the Sion Hill Methodist.

Baker also thanked the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Ministry of the Culture and the entire Kingstown/Chateaubelair circuit for their tremendous help throughout the month.
