Fire officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fire late Tuesday evening which completely destroyed the building housing Buhlers Yachts Ltd and its contents.{{more}}
Police reports claim that the fire started shortly after 6pm at the companyâs premises situated at Calliaqua.
The blaze drew hundreds of spectators from the Calliaqua and surrounding areas, and caused traffic in the vicinity to grind to a halt.
Efforts by the local fire brigade and citizens to bring the fire under control proved futile as the building burned into late Tuesday night.
The property is currently being acquired by the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for the expansion of the National Coast Guard base, which is situated next door.
At press time, the cause of the fire and estimated damage had not been determined. (JJ)
