Rose Hall residents presented with deeds

Fourteen persons have received letters to enable them to obtain deeds and land titles for parcels of lands at Rose Hall. The letters were handed over on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, by Parliamentary Representative Dr Jerrol Thompson.{{more}}

Addressing the gathering, Thompson stated that this is a very important day in the lives of the residents of Rose Hall, because now they can obtain deeds for their land.

According Thompson, an extension of the Copeland Extension Road to Jack Hill is scheduled to enable the road to be accessible and used as a by pass area for the Cross Country Road. The Minister opined that Rose Hall will be “prime for development” and said the people of the area would reap benefits because of their proximity to the cross country road.

Howie Prince, Director of National Emergency Management Office, stated that eleven persons wanted areas to live and had made such applications, and three others were affected by the passage of Hurricane Ivan in 2004. According to Prince, Rose Hall was one of the communities adversely affected.

Calvin Williams, one of the fourteen recipients of deeds and/or land titles, expressed his gratitude to Thompson for the gesture. He further thanked the Prime Minister and Parliament for remembering them in their poverty. Williams stated that “This is one of the greatest ways to take us out of poverty, and I am happy for all of us here today because we couldn’t buy land for ourselves. Now we have a chance to own a piece of land, [and] to own something of value.”
